Sky Art Sculptures
The Under the Sun Foundation is the steward of the landmark metal Sky Art sculptures of Galleta Meadows in Borrego Springs, CA. We aim to balance public access to all art with raising awareness around the preservation of the undeveloped and undisturbed desert landscape held by the Foundation.
Tips for Travelers
We want everyone to enjoy their visit. Please keep these basic desert safety tips in mind:
- Carry plenty of water.
- Stay alert to the possibility of encountering snakes and other wildlife.
- Be mindful of your vehicle's suitability for visiting some locations. Some art is quite far from paved roads, and cars have gotten stuck in soft sand.
- Please do not climb or touch the art works. You could damage the sculptures, and you could get hurt.
Desert Preservation
The Under the Sun Foundation seeks to balance public access with preservation of the undeveloped and undisturbed desert landscape held by the Foundation. By taking some steps to respect our natural environment we will be able to preserve it for the future.
- Please do not forge new paths with your vehicle.
- If you notice any artworks in need of attention, please contact us.

About
The Under the Sun Foundation is inspired by the work of Dennis Avery, the late landowner of Galleta Meadows in Borrego Springs, and his passion for bringing art to the local community and its visitors
Mr. Avery had 130 large-scale, free-standing, metal sculptures produced by artist Ricardo Breceda, referring to them as Sky Art.
Spread over more than 1,500 acres of undeveloped desert land, these larger than life creations welcome the public to discover and enjoy art outdoors, surrounded by the rich and diverse desert environs of Borrego Springs. We use Dennis Avery’s work and Borrego Springs as a point of inspiration and expect to add new geographies, artistic endeavors, and ways to engage with our environment and one another over the coming years.
